If you plan to take the bus 661 or 664 in Madrid, please pay attention , the boarding area in underground area 1 and gate 11. It is on the opposite side of the road for boarding Area 2 and 3. The shop staffs were so tired to direct the people. Once you find it, the rest will be a breeze. I love the town ,too.

Marvelous arquitecture, only an hour away from Madrid. Visiting El Escorial is a must for anyone spending a few days or more in Madrid. Would recommend walking around the monastery as well as doing the tour inside. Mausoleum and library are undoubtedly the best things to see although it's all worth visiting. Very representative of what the rural interior of Spain is truly like.

A MUST PLACE! It is nearby Madrid at only 40 min Drive, also public transport is very accessible. It is the perfect getaway for the weekend activity. During Christmas time is also nice because they decorate the entire center of the plaza and adjacent little streets with seasonal garments. A visit to the inside of the monastery is totally worth it and highly advised. After take a walk in the beautiful gardens and then go to enjoy a nice meal and tapas in the local restaurants around the main plaza. There is also a walk and hike into the mountains from where you can admire the perfect square from above that it is known to be the official seat/ chair of King Felipe II (“Silla de Felipe II) .... when he ordered the construction of the monastery he used to watch from afar. There is a nice Chiringuito there (on the top of the mountain) with nice beer and tapas as well, it gets crowded and food finishes so try to be early! Enjoy the getaway weekend visit!

An amazing place to visit. The garden, while not immaculately kept, has a certain zen-like quality to it. Perfect for ambulatory meditation. Nearby to quality restaurants and great views, one young couple came from Korea to shoot their engagement photos. Tour the monastery, get some food, travel up to the top of mount Abantos. Makes for a great day.

One of the best treasures of Spanish heritage. El Escorial takes to to the zenit of the Spanish empire. With a sober and religious yet magnificent atmosphere, the monastery keeps inside artwork from the most valuable painters and artists of the XVI century. It’s a must visit for anyone visiting Spain.
